Analysis
Verify the Claims
A searchable source architecture for claim-to-source mapping, confidence labels, limitations and corrections.
Some records, charts and workflows may still be draft or placeholder until reviewed.
Researched evidence
What the current sources show
These cards summarize official or primary sources. Open each source for publication dates, limitations and what the source does not prove.
Analysis
Verified figures are not the same as total harm
OHCHR civilian casualty data is valuable because it is verified, but its own limitation is that actual figures are likely higher. The site should always state this boundary.
Analysis
Every large number needs an assessment date
RDNA5 is authoritative for its assessment window, but not for damage after 31 December 2025. The content model should keep dates close to every figure.
Analysis
Source drawers should explain what a source does not prove
The current source schema now separates supports, does not prove and limitations so readers can inspect uncertainty instead of seeing unsupported certainty.

Analysis
Claim-to-source mapping
Every factual claim should be traceable to one or more source records. The source record should show exactly what the evidence supports, whether the page is using it for a verified fact, analysis, scenario or limitation.
Mapping keeps broad war narratives from drifting away from evidence. It also lets readers challenge a sentence without disputing the whole page, because the claim, source and caveat are inspectable together.
Key points
- Link claims to source ids, not only to a general bibliography.
- Separate what a source supports from what it does not prove.
- Keep labels visible when analysis builds on verified facts.
- Treat unsourced assertions as drafts until checked.
Analysis
Publication date
The publication date tells readers when a source entered the public record. For war evidence, that date matters because casualty counts, reconstruction estimates, battlefield conditions, sanctions and nuclear-safety updates can change quickly.
A dated assessment should not be stretched beyond its own window. For example, a reconstruction figure tied to damage through 31 December 2025 should not be presented as the cost of later damage unless a newer source supports it.
Key points
- Display the source publication date close to large numbers and time-sensitive claims.
- Keep the assessment period separate from the publication date.
- Avoid mixing figures from different dates without explaining the difference.
- Replace outdated figures when a newer authoritative source is added.
Analysis
Date accessed
The accessed date records when this site last checked the source. It is not the same as the source publication date, and it should not be used to make an old source look new.
Access dates help readers understand link reliability and review cadence. If an organisation revises a page, moves a document or changes a data table, the site can show when the earlier claim was last inspected.
Key points
- Record the date a source was last checked by the site.
- Do not substitute accessed date for publication date.
- Use accessed dates to prioritise review of volatile claims.
- Update the date only after the source has actually been rechecked.
Analysis
Source type
Source type tells readers whether a record is a primary document, government release, international organisation report, research publication, journalism or NGO material. The category describes provenance; it is not a shortcut for automatic trust.
Different source types answer different questions. A treaty text can support a legal framework, an IAEA update can support a nuclear-safety status claim, and research can support modelled economic mechanisms if its assumptions are shown.
Key points
- Classify sources by provenance and method.
- Do not treat source type as a substitute for reading limitations.
- Use primary documents for legal text where possible.
- Pair analysis with the source type that can actually support it.
Analysis
Evidence confidence
Confidence labels describe how strongly a source-backed claim can be used on the site. They consider source quality, specificity, currentness, corroboration and whether the wording stays inside what the evidence actually proves.
High confidence is not certainty about every hidden fact, and low confidence is not a claim that something is false. The label is an editorial signal about how carefully the claim should be reused.
Key points
- Use high confidence for specific, current and well-supported claims.
- Use medium or low confidence when evidence is indirect, modelled or disputed.
- Review confidence when new sources change the evidence base.
- Keep confidence labels visible in charts, cards and downloads.
Analysis
Limitations
Limitations explain what a source does not prove, where its data window ends and which assumptions shape the claim. They stop a true sentence from becoming misleading when copied without context.
This is especially important for verified minimums, modelled scenarios and reconstruction estimates. A verified casualty figure can understate total harm, while a damage assessment can be authoritative for one date and incomplete for later attacks.
Key points
- Write limitations in plain language, not only technical caveats.
- Show what the source does not prove as well as what it supports.
- Keep uncertainty attached when content is translated or downloaded.
- Do not hide material assumptions in footnotes only.
Analysis
Archived reference
Archived references preserve a view of a source at or near the time it was checked. They help readers audit a claim if the live page later changes, moves or becomes unavailable.
An archive does not replace the live source and does not make a weak source stronger. It is a durability tool for transparency, especially for public records, press releases and datasets that may be revised.
Key points
- Add archive links where the source and rights allow it.
- Keep live source URLs alongside archive URLs.
- Use archives to support auditability, not to freeze corrections.
- Mark missing archives clearly rather than inventing one.
Analysis
Correction history
Correction history records what changed, when it changed and why. It should cover numerical corrections, source replacements, wording changes that alter meaning and updates to translated or downloadable material.
Corrections protect reader trust by making changes visible instead of silently overwriting the record. The goal is not to punish mistakes; it is to keep the evidence chain readable after publication.
Key points
- Record the date, affected claim and reason for a material correction.
- Preserve enough previous context for readers to understand the change.
- Update related charts, downloads and translations when a correction affects them.
- Distinguish minor copy edits from corrections that change meaning.
Web radar scan website registry
These publications and research institutes are the monitoring registry used by the AI web radar. Direct RSS feeds are used where configured; the broader list is scanned through public Google News RSS index groups by source name, Ukraine-war query terms and seven-day recency.
